Department of Orthopaedic Surgery

Knee
The knee is the largest joint in the body, and is one of the most easily injured.
According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, approximately 17 million visits
were made to physician's offices in 2000 due to knee problems.
Many knee injuries occur in athletes; listen to any sports program and you will likely hear of an athlete
that suffered from ACL tear, patella tendonitis, or meniscus tear. But the most common cause of chronic
knee pain is arthritis, which can in some cases be due to the normal wear and tear from everyday use,
and can affect anyone from professional athletes to couch potatoes. Our physicians are dedicated to
returning both athletes and non-athletes to their pre-injury level of activity as soon and as safely
as possible.
Our physicians will exhaust every possible conservative treatment option before considering surgery.
However, if a surgical procedure is necessary, our surgeons have expertise in treating all injuries to
the knee, including:
Knee ligament injuries ACL, PCL, MCL, Cruciate Ligament
Meniscus tear
Osteoarthritis of the knee
Osteoarthritis of the knee - surgical treatment
Osteoarthritis - Glucosamine & Chondroitin Sulfate
Patella dislocation
Patella tendon rupture
Knee arthroscopy
