Preinvasive Lower Genital Tract Lesions

A. Preinvasive Vulvar Lesions


1. Describe epidemiology and pathogenesis
2. Describe typical clinical manifestations
3. List the differential diagnosis of vulvar lesions
4. Treat preinvasive vulvar lesions medically and surgically
5. Implement appropriate follow-up after treatment

B. Preinvasive Cervical Disease


1. Describe epidemiology and pathogenesis of cervical dysplasia
2. Elicit a pertinent history in a patient with an abnormal PAP
3. Interpret an abnormal PAP smear, cervical biopsies
4. Treat cervical dysplasia with cryosurgery, laser ablation, LEEP
5. Manage complications from treatment
6. Describe appropriate follow up in a woman who has been treated for cervical dysplasia
7. Describe the effects of DES on the cervix

C. Endometrial Hyperplasia


1. Obtain targeted history, including assessment of risk factors such as obesity, anovulation, polycystic ovary syndrome, glucose intolerance, estrogen exposure, family history
2. Perform focused physical examination
3. Describe the classification of endometrial hyperplasia
4. Describe the factors that influence treatment of hyperplasia
5. Select and perform appropriate treatments for hyperplasia

a. Medical therapy including progestins, oral contraceptives, ovulation induction agents, gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogs, danazol
b. Surgery, including endometrial curettage, ablation, hysterectomy

6. Describe and manage potential complications
7. Describe appropriate follow up
