Patients can attend a Free Orientation to help them chose the Weight Management strategy that will work best for them, including protein-sparing diets, calorie-controlled diets, prescription medication and calorie-restricted diet, surgery, full liquid formula diet, food and liquid formula diet, or entrée program. The Nutrition Support Service, a multi-specialty unit, is a collaborative effort between the Departments of Medicine and Surgery. The treatment team includes Nutrition-Certified Physicians, Surgeons, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and Dietitians. The service is devoted to the nutritional assessment and metabolic support of stressed and malnourished hospitalized patients. Expert Diabetes evaluation and treatment is available for the abnormalities of Glucose Intolerance and Diabetes, which frequently occur in Weight Management patients. An interdisciplinary team, including Physicians, Nurses, Dietitians, and Psychologists, integrate Nutritional and Medical Management of Diabetes in a culturally sensitive environment.
