Primary Care
Research
Ongoing Research StudiesOur clinic is actively engaged in various research projects. Here are a few:
Hypertension Control: Therapy & Adherence
This research project will study how communication between patients and Primary Care providers affect the care they receive, their use of blood pressure medications and their blood pressure. Some of the Primary Care providers in this study were given training about improving communication and cultural knowledge. We have enrolled 900 subjects into our study and asked them questions about their medication use and beliefs and attitudes about blood pressure. Our goal is to better understand blood pressure control. Enrollment for this study is now closed. For more information, please contact Meredith Manze at 617-414-8441.
Shared Decision-Making for Colorectal Cancer Screening Overview
The Section of Gastroenterology is conducting a research study in the ambulatory care setting at BMC to teach patients about colorectal cancer screening tests. The study takes place prior to an office visit with a primary care doctor. All subjects complete a short survey before and after viewing a computer decision aid program and are given a $25 gift card to Stop & Shop. Eligible subjects speak English, have no family or personal history of colorectal cancer, and are 50-75 years of age. They have had no prior screening, meaning no colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, or barium enema. Subjects are still eligible if they have had a stool blood testing in the past.
