Graduate Medical Education
Boston Medical Center (BMC) sponsors forty-four (44) residency training programs that are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and participates in four (4) programs sponsored by Boston Children’s Hospital. BMC has one (1) program accredited by the American Dental Association (ADA) and participates in (2) other ADA accredited programs. In addition, BMC supports thirty-two (32) active nonstandard programs. Currently, BMC supports five hundred and eighty-six (586) residents, plus an additional forty-five (45) in combined Children's Hospital/BMC Programs. BMC Programs are affiliated with thirty-two (32) participating institutions.
The Minority Recruitment program has been at Boston City Hospital/Boston Medical Center for over twenty (20) years. Annually about 2200 minorities graduate from medical schools. Recruitment of these graduates is difficult, especially in the Boston area. To attract minorities, BMC offers subsidized electives to fourth year medical students. The current total number of minority residents at BMC is 77 (12.6%).
BMC's Graduate Medical Education Department educates and prepares physicians for board eligibility in a variety of medical disciplines through curricula which reflect an appropriate balance of patient care, education and research.
