Services The Department of Ophthalmology provides all levels of eye care from basic primary ophthalmic medical and refractive services through tertiary subspecialty care. This Department is a leader in the field and is credited with several significant"firsts":the first opthalmic laser photocoagulator in New England; the first ambulatory operating room for major ophthalmic surgery in New England; and the first clinical specular microscope for noninvasive evaluation of the corneal endothelium.

General eye services include comprehensive ophthalmology, comprehensive optometric services, and contact lenses.
