Temporary Housing Program
ELAHP's Temporary Housing Program is designed to assist homeless and
at-risk older adults who are interested in pursuing permanent housing.
It is a comprehensive program with the primary focus of placing
clients in permanent housing most suitable to their needs. Clients work with a case manager and nurse who assess and monitor their ability to live independently, develop a plan for supportive services, and assist in areas which may impact their ability to get and maintain permanent
housing.
The program uses studio
and 1-bedroom apartments in three Boston Housing Authority elderly/disabled buildings as temporary shelter
where clients can stay until they are helped to find permanent housing.
The buildings are
located in Dorchester, Jamaica Plain and the South End.
Each client is expected to meet the requirements of an individualized service plan,
as well as follow the rules of the program and the Boston Housing Authority.

The Process:
Interested individuals should contact Kip Langello of the Elders Living at Home
Program at (617) 414-1642. They will be asked to fill out an ELAHP referral form and a BHA application.
Next, they will be scheduled for an initial interview with ELAHP staff to begin the assessment of the individual's needs and
abilities.
If this temporary housing program is determined to be an appropriate placement for
the client, staff will follow-up with the client and other service providers and begin the process with the BHA.
Please note that this process could take between 3 to 5 months.
If an individual needs a place to stay more quickly, that individual should consider applying to the ERAPP program.
