The CDD works in collaboration with the Cancer Center at Boston Medical Center to offer patients prompt, current and compassionate care. For upper gastrointestinal malignancies, multidisciplinary cancer management is critical to the well being of the patient. Our team

includes diagnosticians in the areas of radiology, gastroenterology and surgery. Clinicians in oncologic and gastrointestinal surgery, radiation oncology and medical oncology provide cancer therapy, as well as access to local and national clinical trials. We also offer novel treatments such as intraluminal stents and radiofrequency ablation of liver tumors.

We are known for our expertise in colorectal cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment. Our screening programs for people who have a high risk of developing colorectal cancer, as well as those at average risk, integrate endoscopic strategies with radiological techniques such as virtual colonoscopy. Genetic counseling is also available for those at risk for developing hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer and familial adenomatous polyposis. The CDD has extensive experience performing endoscopic polypectomy, using both standard and advanced techniques such as argon plasma coagulation (APC) and laser ablation.

Research is currently being conducted on the application of molecular genetics to the development of new screening strategies for colorectal cancer. Studies are also being done on the development, implementation and evaluation of model programs for community-based colorectal cancer control.
