Comprehensive Care Program for Special Needs Children
An increasing number of children with special medical needs are not only surviving but also thriving due to
advances in medicine. As a result, many families are facing the rewards and challenges of caring for these
special children at home. The Comprehensive Care Program helps families raising a child with a significant
developmental disability by providing "one-stop shopping" health care. During the regular primary care visit,
the child can also see a host of sub-specialists, cutting down on the need for multiple visits to the hospital,
and interdisciplinary staff make home visits to provide family support and effective case management. In addition,
the Department has designed a Special Families Training Project to help educate, train, and support parents of
children with special medical needs.
