The Child Witness to Violence Program (CWTV)
CWTV is an award-winning counseling, advocacy and outreach project that provides counseling, advocacy and outreach to children under the age of 8 who witness violence in their homes or communities. The program began after a 1992 Boston City Hospital study showed that by age six, one in ten children had witnessed violence. The multicultural, multilingual program staff identify children who witness violence, provide counseling needed to promote healing, and train care providers (including educators, police officers, court personnel and other child professionals) about the effects of witnessing domestic or community violence on the behavioral and emotional development of young children.
