Child Protection Team


The mission of the Child Protection Team is 1) to ensure that child victims of abuse and neglect and their families have access to protection, appropriate medical care, psychosocial support, and advocacy services, 2) to identify and work towards resolving barriers to effective identification and response to maltreatment at BMC; 3) to provide training and education to pediatric health and other professionals to enhance their abilities to recognize and manage child maltreatment.

Role of The Child Protection Team includes the following:

  • Provides social work and medical consultation by phone 24 hours a day 7 days a week through our on-call pager 617-638-5795 #7336. We provide referral sources and social or medical discussion of cases over the phone.

  • Provides medical clinic services on Monday afternoons. We provide forensic examinations for sexual and physical abuse as well as evaluations for unclear cases of abuse or neglect. Call Andrea Chiros at 617-414-7425 to schedule an appointment.

  • Tracks, reviews and collects data on all 51As filed by BMC staff

  • Serves as liaison with the Department of Social Services, Boston Police, Suffolk County District Attorney's Office, and Children's Advocacy Center of Suffolk County.

  • Provides training/education to staff regarding child abuse and neglect. Contact Andrea Chiros 617-414-7425 to request a specific training.
