Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

National Child Traumatic Stress Network>
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration recently funded a national network of
centers devoted to the treatment of traumatic stress in children. The Department of Child and Adolescent
Psychiatry was awarded the Medical and Refugee Trauma Treatment Development Center within this National
Child Traumatic Stress Network. This center is devoted to the development and testing of new treatments
for children who have experienced injuries, burns, and stressful medical procedures and war, displacement
and refugee trauma. This center will also operate within the wider National Child Traumatic Stress Network
where there are other centers devoted to such problems as child abuse, loss, community violence, and
traumatic stress in very young children and in adolescents.
