Laser Lecture Series: Cutaneous Lasers
This course has been designed as a guide to modern cutaneous lasers. The course starts with an overview of the basic physics behind modern lasers, and then progresses on to discuss a wide variety of laser systems. The course covers vascular lasers, hair removal lasers, pigmented lesion lasers, ablative and non-ablative resurfacing lasers and acne. There is also a section on laser safety. Practical tips and guidelines for the use of a variety of cutaneous lasers are discussed. This course has been designed for both advanced and novice laser users. Participants must review the slide program that follows below and answer the accompanying questions to earn continuing medical education credit.

Educational Needs Addressed
There is an increasing need for on-line educational material on cutaneous laser systems. The cutaneous laser industry changes so rapidly, it is difficult to keep up with via standard text book type information. By the time many things reach print, they are already outdated. This module brings the practicing dermatologist and plastic surgeon current information about the use of cutaneous lasers.
Goals and Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Describe the basic physics behind modern cutaneous laser systems.
- List the safety aspects and concerns of cutaneous laser systems.
- Discuss a wide variety of cutaneous laser treatments including hair removal lasers, vascular lasers, pigmented lesion lasers, as well as ablative and non ablative resurfacing lasers.
