Vitamin D studies

With funding from the USDA and MCHB, we are investigating vitamin D levels in mothers and newborns in Boston, at birth, and at 4 months of age. These studies have been running since Spetember 2004. We have also performed a pilot study to examine physician compliance with AAP recommendations, which state that infants who are exclusively breastfed should receive vitamin D supplements by two months of age.

  • Link to our poster presented at ILCA in July, 2006, about vitamin D prescribing patterns, and vitamin D levels in Year 1 of our study.
  • An oral presentation on our findings to date will be presented at the American Public Health Association Meeting in Boston, November 2006.
