Breastfeeding, race, and ethnicity

Approximately 60% of women giving birth on the maternity service at Boston Medica Center are African American, 20% are Latina, 10% are White and 10% are of other races. The Breastfeeding Center has a history of research investigating breastfeeding in minority populations and working on clinical interventions to raise breastfeeding rates in these populations.

Maternal Birth Place and Breastfeeding Initiation among Term and Preterm Infants:  A Statewide Assessment for Massachusetts

This paper is due to be published in October 2006. Link to our poster presented at the Societies for Pediatric Research (April 2006) and at ILCA (July 2006) describing the preliminary results of this study.
