| Distinguished Speaker Series: Clinical Psychiatric Practices and Concerns for Highly Reliable Employment Positions This message is from: Emily Winter ewinter@bu.edu 414-2309 Location: 650 Albany St / 714 Speaker: Dr. Gregory Saathoff, Executive Director, Critical Incident Analysis Group, University of Virginia Summary: The need to ensure workforce competency and effectively perform mandatory reporting requirements for patients in highly reliable positions is complicated by the treatment and intervention process, as well as confusion about the limits and authority of HIPAA. Multiple clinical caregivers perform aspects of clinical service including counseling, therapy, and medical supervision, and this team concept of clinical service may lend itself to confusion or omission of information. Further, individual patient outcomes are unique in responsiveness to treatment. The need to develop effective protocol for team management of patients in highly reliable positions has been identified as an important aspect in homeland security. Learning objectives: 1. List three examples of "red flags" that should signal concern for the clinician treating the patient who has access to highly lethal biological select agents and toxins. 2. Identify two reasons that a referral for independent evaluation may be appropriate. 3. List 3 biological select agents or toxins that fall under existing governmental regulation. Please RSVP to Emily Winter at ewinter@bu.edu or 414-2309. Light refreshments will be served. |

| Need help recruiting research subjects? Consider using the ReSPECT Registry! This message is from: Kimberly Russell Lucas, MPH, CCRP krlucas@bu.edu 638-8862 Location: Clinical Research Resources Office / Evans Building E709 ReSPECT Registry of Boston University/Boston Medical Center Recruitment Services Program of the CRRO has built a research registry and can provide BU/BMC investigators research subjects for their studies. The Respect Registry • We help you find subjects to participate in your research study. • Registry Members are recruited through a variety of outreach initiatives at Boston Medical Center and surrounding communities. • The Registry contains a diverse population. As of April 2012, we have over 3,100 Registry members. The aim is to recruit thousands. How do People Join the Registry? • People join the Registry by filling out a short survey. They are asked to provide demographic information and a brief medical history. • For Boston Medical Center patients, the registry is connected to their electronic medical records. This helps the Registry team to better identify potentially eligible subjects for a study. • The Registry team then contacts Registry members on the behalf of the study. Upon contact, the potential subjects inform us whether or not they would like the investigator to directly contact them or they contact the study team on their own. • As a condition of utilizing the Registry, investigators are required to inform the Registry team of the enrollment status of individuals referred to their study. • For more information or to use the Registry, visit our website: http://www.bumc.bu.edu/crro/recruitment/ or contact us directly at: Phone: 638-8862 or 414-1971 Boston University Medical Campus, 72 East Concord, E709, Boston, MA 02118 Email: respect@bu.edu To join the ReSPECT Registry or refer patients: www.burespect.org The ReSPECT Registry is supported by the Boston University’s Department of Medicine, Clinical and Translational Science Institute, and the Office of Clinical Research. |
