President and CEO

Kate Walsh became the president and CEO of Boston Medical Center (BMC) on March 1, 2010.

BMC is a private, not-for-profit, 496 bed, academic medical center with a community-based focus. The primary teaching affiliate of Boston University School of Medicine, Boston Medical Center has approximately 4,500 employees, 1,200 physicians and an annual operating budget of roughly $1.0 billion. BMC is a founder of Boston HealthNet, a network affiliation of the Medical Center, Boston University School of Medicine and 13 community health centers. Boston HealthNet is an integrated health care delivery system whose partners provide outreach, prevention, primary care, specialty care and dental services at sites throughout Boston's neighborhoods and Quincy.

In addition to the Medical Center and its affiliated community health centers, BMC owns and operates the BMC HealthNet Plan, a statewide Medicaid Managed Care Organization with more than 260,000 members across the Commonwealth.

Prior to her appointment at Boston Medical Center, Ms. Walsh served as executive vice president and chief operating officer of Brigham and Women’s Hospital for five years. She served previously as the chief operating officer for Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research.

Ms. Walsh began her career in health care as a summer intern at Brookside Health Center in the Boston neighborhood of Jamaica Plain. Upon finishing graduate school, she held positions in a number of New York City hospitals including Montefiore, Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, Saint Luke’s – Roosevelt Hospital Center and the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation. She relocated to Boston and joined Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) as an assistant general director in medical services and was promoted to vice president of medical services and primary care and then to senior vice president of medical services and the MGH Cancer Center.

Ms. Walsh received her bachelor’s of arts degree and a master’s degree in public health from Yale University. She is a member of the Boards of Trustees of Emmanuel College, the YMCA of Greater Boston, the Boston Public Health Commission, the Massachusetts Hospital Association, the Council of Teaching Hospitals, and the Yale University School of Medicine. She is also a member of the Advisory Board of the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center, the Health Care Institute and the Boston Green Ribbon Commission.

Ms. Walsh, a native of Brookline, is married and has two children.

David Beck

Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Counsel

David Beck has been with BMC since 2007, when he was appointed Deputy General Counsel.  He was promoted to Vice President and General Counsel in 2011.  Immediately prior to joining BMC, David served as Deputy Chief of the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Public Protection Bureau.  He received a B.A. degree from Vanderbilt University, an M.P.P. degree from the Harvard Kennedy School, and a J.D. degree from the Harvard Law School.  David oversees BMC’s legal matters, corporate compliance, and captive insurance company.

Alastair Bell, MD, MBA

Chief Operating Officer

Dr. Alastair Bell is the Chief Operating Officer at Boston Medical Center and in that role he oversees inpatient and outpatient clinical operations, clinical support departments, facilities and environmental services, marketing, and strategic planning.  Prior to assuming this role, Dr. Bell served as BMC’s Vice President for Strategy Implementation where he worked closely with the senior management team to oversee implementation of the ambitious agenda of initiatives that form BMC’s Be Exceptional strategic plan.

Dr. Bell joined BMC from McKinsey and Company in 2012, where he was a leader in the North American Payor and Provider practice. In his 5 years at McKinsey he advised a range of national and international healthcare organizations and while his work spanned strategy, operational and organizational issues, he developed particular expertise in leading large scale transformation programs similar to that being undertaken at BMC.  He received his medical degree from the University of Oxford in England and completed his internal medicine training in Oxford and Edinburgh. Dr. Bell also holds a MA degree in Physiology from the University of Cambridge, England, and an MBA with distinction from Harvard Business School.

William Creevy, MD, MS

President and CEO of the Faculty Practice Foundation

Prior to his appointment to the Faculty Practice Foundation in 2013, Dr. Creevy served as Vice Chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at BMC and BUSM for 15 years. Dr. Creevy received his undergraduate and medical degrees from Boston University. He completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Boston Medical Center, serving as chief resident, in 1992. This was followed by a fellowship in sports medicine at the Graduate Hospital, University of Pennsylvania before joining the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Boston University School of Medicine in 1994. In 2001, Dr. Creevy received a Master of Science in Health Care Management from the Harvard School of Public Health.

Working in collaboration with department chairs and senior leadership of BMC and BUSM, Dr. Creevy is responsible for the overall strategic direction of the FPF, providing fiscal and operational oversight of the physician organization. He is also Assistant Dean for Faculty Practice at Boston University School of Medicine.

Ravin Davidoff, MBBCh

Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Ravin Davidoff was named Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer in 2011. Dr. Davidoff previously served as Vice President of Medical Affairs and CMO at BMC since 2008. Dr. Davidoff received his MBBCh from the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa, and completed his residency in internal medicine at Boston City Hospital and fellowship in cardiology at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Dr. Davidoff is a Professor of Medicine at BU School of Medicine and is responsible for Network Development, Graduate Medical Education, Medical Affairs, the Medical Executive Committee and Clinical Affiliations including Community Health Centers, Cancer Care, Radiation Oncology and Anesthesia.

Nancy Gaden, DNP, RN

Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer

Nancy Gaden joined BMC in early 2014. Nancy comes to BMC from Hallmark Health System, where she served as System Vice President, Patient Care Services/Chief Nursing Officer. In this role, she was a key member of Hallmark’s executive team and directly oversaw patient care services.  Under her leadership, Hallmark Health received Magnet Designation from the ANCC.  Prior to her tenure at Hallmark, Nancy served in senior Patient Care Services/Chief Nursing Officer roles at Caritas St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, South Shore Hospital and Milton Hospital. She received her BS from the University of Rochester, her MS from Boston College and graduated with her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Regis College.

Stanley Hochberg, MD

Senior Vice President for Quality, Safety and Technology and Chief Quality Officer

Stanley Hochberg joined BMC in 2011. Prior to his appointment, he served as Chief Medical Officer for the BMC HealthNet Plan. Dr. Hochberg received his medical degree from the University of Rochester, where he also completed his residency.

Dr. Hochberg oversees Information Technology Services, Quality Improvement and Risk Management, Patient Experience and Infection Control.

Lisa Kelly-Croswell

Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer

Lisa Kelly-Croswell joined Boston Medical Center in 2013 and  is responsible for leading all Human Resources functions as well as BMC’s Occupational Health Clinic and Volunteer Services Department.   Lisa brings more than 25 years of experience in a wide range of global HR leadership roles including: Senior Vice President, HR and Corporate Services at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, VP, HR at Nitromed, Inc.,  SVP, HR for Healthcare and Service Operations at CIGNA, and a series of progressive HR leadership roles at Monsanto and Frito-Lay.  While at Monsanto, Lisa also held an expatriate assignment based in Singapore, leading HR responsibilities for Southeast Asia.

Lisa received a B.S. in Finance and an M.A. in Labor and Industrial Relations from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.   She currently serves on the Board of Directors of Commonwealth Corporation.  

Richard Silveria, MBA

Senior Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer

Richard Silveria joined BMC in 2010. He previously served as Corporate Director of Revenue Finance for the Partners Healthcare System for more than 12 years, and served VP of Managed Care Finance for the Lawrence General Health System for 10 years. He received his BS degree in education from the University of Massachusetts and his MBA degree from Northeastern University.

Richard Silveria is responsible for oversight of the system financial framework and for finance functions including Treasury, Financial Planning and Budgets, Payment Systems, Managed Care, Supply Chain, Patient Financial Services, Patient Access, Revenue Integrity and Coding.

Norman Stein, CFRE

Senior Vice President, Chief Development Officer

Norman Stein has been with Boston Medical Center for more than 17 years, during which time annual development results have grown from $500,000 to $50 million.  Norman also coordinates the BMC System Nominating and Governance Committee and launched Marketing Committee, the Leadership Council, and the Friends of Women’s Health.

Prior to joining BMC, Norman was Associate Director of Development and Director of Leadership Gifts for the Museum of Fine Arts and built the development program in support of the Nobel Peace Prize winning International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War.

Norman is a graduate of Boston College with dual Masters degrees from the University of California at Berkeley in Public Policy and Energy Resources.
