Robert Helm Joins BMC as a Electrophysiologist in the
Department of Medicine, Section of Cardiology
 Robert Helm, MD, has been appointed as an electrophysiologist in the Department of Medicine, Section of Cardiology and has been recommended for assistant professor of medicine and radiology at Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM).
Dr. Helm, received his medical degree from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Il, where he also completed his residency in Internal Medicine. Dr. Helm completed fellowships in cardiovascular disease and cardiac electrophysiology at the John Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. He is a member of the American Heart Association, the Heart Rhythm Society and the American College of Cardiology.
Dr. Helm’s clinical expertise is in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias including atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), and ventricular tachycardia (VT). He performs catheter ablation procedures that are curative for most arrhythmias, reducing and often eliminating the need for anti-arrhythmic medications. He also implants pacemakers and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD) for various cardiac conditions. Finally, he has clinical expertise in removing pacemakers and ICDs. His research interests include cardiac resynchronization therapy, which uses a pacemaker to strengthen the failing heart, and using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to improve clinical outcomes.
